In the first quarter of 2026, turnover amounted to €367.5 million.

EBITDA reached €104.0 million, equivalent to a sales margin of 28.3%.

Earnings stood at €1.53 per share, up +13.3% compared to the previous year.

Debt is recorded at €273.1 million, 0.6x the pro forma last-twelve-months EBITDA following the acquisition of the two plants in Chile.

Raúl Gómez, CEO of Vidrala, highlighted that “despite the adverse context of the war in the Middle East, rising energy costs, and persistent competitive pressure, our first-quarter results—driven by our internal cost control actions—are a testament to the solid future we are building.”

Llodio (Álava), 29 April 2026. Vidrala, a leading group in glass container manufacturing with a presence in Europe, the UK, and South America, closed the first quarter of the year with a net profit 13% higher, recording €53.7 million up to March, equivalent to earnings per share of €1.53.

Furthermore, the industrial group managed to maintain its EBITDA at €104 million (-0.6%) and a sales margin of 28.3%, higher than the previous year's, bolstered by internal cost control measures.

In terms of sales, Vidrala achieved a turnover of €367.5 million up to March, representing a slight decrease of 1.3% compared to the same period last year.

In an adverse context due to the war in the Middle East and continued weak demand in Europe and the UK, the company's results were favoured by the performance of the business in South America. This new geographical business platform, launched in early 2024 with production bases in Brazil and Chile, already contributes more than 20% of the group's total sales.

On the other hand, debt stands at €273.1 million. This figure, which already includes the €75 million acquisition of Vidrala Chile, represents a low level of leverage equivalent to 0.6x the last twelve months' EBITDA.

Raúl Gómez, Group CEO, highlights: “our first quarter results are a testament to the solid future we are building. Faced with adversity, we do not stand still. We are investing more than ever, with our minds on the future and the customer. We are adapting our industrial capacity, prioritising investments according to rigorous planning. We act, managing costs with an undeniable focus on competitiveness, our true reason for being. And we are diversifying the business, creating a growth platform in South America that has gained significant weight. Vidrala's results demonstrate, today more than ever, the strength and adaptability of our business model.”

Outlook for 2026

On this basis, the Group remains confident in its new business model and today announces a favourable outlook for the whole of 2026, which would see earnings per share grow by more than 5% thanks to operational actions, the contribution of the new perimeter, and the control of financial costs. Even with the major challenges presented by the current environment, Vidrala expects its management to enable EBITDA to reach €450 million, surpassing the previous year. Additionally, the company expects to generate around €200 million in free cash flow, consolidating a differential profitability profile after completing a new phase of ambitious industrial investment.

“Vidrala is today a more solid and diversified company, a multinational orderly focused on three complementary business areas that create a great business combination: Europe, the UK, and South America. We are a world-class glass producer, supplying major global customers, and we possess high-quality industrial assets and technology. Despite the significant challenges in the environment, our internal actions allow us to evolve as a partner of choice for our customers and to announce today that our results will grow in 2026. Our future belongs to us.”

Vidrala will hold its Annual General Meeting today at 12:00 at the company's registered office, located at Barrio Munegazo, 22, Llodio (Álava).

This new facility, one of the largest solar self-generation infrastructures in the Basque Country, will drive forward the decarbonisation of the glass packaging production process.

Vidrala’s commitment to Llodio, involving an investment exceeding €3 million, will also benefit from a 25% incentive funded by the Basque Government.

The 7 MW photovoltaic infrastructure will reduce Scope 2 (market-based) emissions by 1,909 tonnes of CO₂, the equivalent of driving around the world approximately 400 times*.

Llodio, 27 April 2026. Vidrala, a leading group in glass packaging manufacturing, has installed a 7 MW self-consumption photovoltaic plant at its Llodio factory, in line with its commitment to a competitive, autonomous, and sustainable industrial model. This new facility, one of the largest solar self-generation projects in the Basque Country, will be installed across 30,000 square metres of existing rooftop space and represents a significant leap in the decarbonisation of the production process.

The initiative is part of the company’s global strategy, which focuses on increasing investment to improve process efficiency, decarbonising competitively, and building a more sovereign energy system that is less exposed to price volatility and electricity market tensions. In fact, thanks to its ongoing investments in efficiency and renewable energy, Vidrala maintains one of the lowest emission ratios in the sector. The new photovoltaic infrastructure will allow for a reduction of 1,909 tonnes of CO₂ in Scope 2 (market-based) emissions, equivalent to roughly 400 laps around the world by car*.

The integration of renewable energy for self-consumption is a key step for the Álava-based plant. In addition to housing the corporate headquarters of this multinational—which operates across Southern Europe, the UK, and South America—the site manufactures around 500 million glass containers per year. Vidrala’s investment in Llodio, totalling €3.2 million, will also receive a 25% incentive funded by the Basque Government.

The Group is driving its decarbonisation roadmap through several strategic levers, most notably increasing the use of recycled glass, the progressive electrification of furnaces, and the replacement of natural gas with more sustainable energy sources.

Vidrala has finalised the process announced in December 2025 with the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of glass manufacturer Cristalerías Toro for a total enterprise value of €75 million.

This marks the establishment of Vidrala Chile, signalling the beginning of a new phase based on the rollout of the Group’s multinational industrial model.

The transaction represents a further step in Vidrala’s selectively strategic geographical diversification and a strengthening of its business platform in South America.

30 March 2026.- Vidrala, a leading multinational group in the manufacture of glass containers, has completed the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of Cristalerías Toro, a glass container producer located in the metropolitan area of Santiago, Chile.

As of today, the company will be known as Vidrala Chile, marking the beginning of a new phase fully integrated within the industrial group Vidrala, which has been providing technical support for several years. Through the new Vidrala Chile, modern, high-quality and competitive service will be offered to a broad range of customers in the food and beverage sectors, many of whom are global, strategic and highly complementary to the Group’s commercial base.

Raúl Gómez, CEO of Vidrala, stated: “We would like to acknowledge the industrial legacy of the Toro family, the company’s founders, the continued support of customers who will form the foundation of the future, and the efforts of the people and management team who run the business under particularly demanding market conditions. Today we begin a new chapter. Vidrala Chile is born, integrated into a multinational group with a firmly industrial, long-term and customer-focused vision. Hello Chile, together we look to the future. We will deploy our glassmaking model, creating value in the country, driving the industry and positioning glass as Chile’s definitive packaging material, in service of our purpose: our customers.”

The acquisition has been completed at a total enterprise value of €75 million, including assumed debt. In 2025, Cristalerías Toro generated revenues of 79,915 million pesos and an adjusted EBITDA of 13,216 million pesos, equivalent to €75 million and €12 million, respectively. Following completion of this acquisition, and in line with the previously outlined strategic assumptions, the Group’s financial position will remain solid, with resulting net debt limited to around 0.5 times annual EBITDA. This milestone represents a further step in Vidrala’s selectively strategic geographical diversification and a strengthening of its business platform in South America.

Vidrala projects investment exceeding 180 million euros in its Castilla-La Mancha site

The President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, visited the site to learn about the industrial investment programme the company is designing for the region.

The factory will refurbish the first of its two regional furnaces starting in June, increasing annual capacity by 10% to nearly 315,000 tonnes of glass packaging.

The approval of the second phase of the investment plan, which includes the modernisation of the second furnace, will depend on the plant's competitiveness and market conditions.

Vidrala reinforces its role as a strategic partner for the food and beverage industry, generating 300 stable jobs.

Caudete, 17 March 2026. Vidrala, a leading company in the manufacture of glass packaging for the food and beverage industry, is planning an investment scheme for its Caudete plant (Albacete) exceeding 180 million euros in total. This project aims to strengthen sustainability and energy efficiency at the site.

The President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, visited the facilities to see first-hand the scope of the planned works, which are designed to bolster the centre’s industrial competitiveness and ensure its long-term commitment to the area.

The Vidrala plant in Caudete is a major industrial hub for the region. Equipped with two furnaces and eight production lines, it has an annual capacity of approximately 315,000 tonnes of glass containers for the food and drink sectors. Furthermore, it directly employs around 300 professionals, making it one of the primary industrial employers in the surrounding area.

The investment plan outlined by Vidrala—an international group with a presence in Southern Europe, the UK and Ireland, Brazil, and Chile—includes measures to modernise the production centre by incorporating advanced technology into the glass manufacturing processes.

From June, the factory will begin refurbishing the first of its two furnaces in the region, which will expand its annual capacity by 10%. Meanwhile, the second phase—subject to the plant’s competitiveness and market conditions—includes the upgrading of the second melting furnace, the expansion of electrical infrastructure, and the development of new renewable energy generation solutions on-site. Additionally, large-scale moulding machinery would be introduced, allowing production to adapt to lighter and more sustainable packaging.

Raúl Gómez, CEO of Vidrala, stressed: “Spanish industry needs to be defended. Today, more than ever, given the events unfolding in the Middle East and the serious energy insecurity this crisis is creating in Europe. We need firm backing from the country to allow us to move forward with investment decisions that are currently more complex than ever. Our proposal is to invest, but we need support.”

During the visit, he further noted: “The Caudete plant has been an iconic facility for the glass industry, a source of pride for the country and for Castilla-La Mancha. However, it now faces a strategic renewal, marked by the end of the useful life of its facilities and a particularly adverse context for an investment of this magnitude. We are industrialists and we decide for the long term; therefore, although it is not easy, we are proposing a plan. We have a project designed to incorporate the best available technologies, which would position the plant as a benchmark in industrial decarbonisation and raise the standards of safety, sustainability, and quality of employment in Castilla-La Mancha.”

Finally, he explained: “We are planning an investment of over 180 million euros, which would guarantee activity for decades and whose value is even more significant in the current international climate. But this moment demands a firm commitment and a proportionate response: from the Government of Spain, with a steadfast commitment to industry, supporting measures on energy tariffs and industrial deregulation aligned with the most ambitious European countries; from the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, whose support in the form of investment incentives is crucial for any industrial initiative with a long-term vocation; and from our people, whose commitment to the shared project is the best guarantee for tomorrow. Together, we can make this project a reality.”

A strategic partner for the agri-food sector

Vidrala’s activity in Caudete is closely linked to the development of the agri-food sector, particularly wine, which is one of the pillars of the Castilla-La Mancha economy. Through its industrial platform in Caudete, the Group supplies glass packaging to numerous food and drink producers, helping to drive the sector's competitiveness and consolidate industrial value chains linked to the territory. The new investment programme reinforces this relationship, ensuring a more efficient, sustainable industrial platform prepared to meet future market needs.

Integrated Annual Report 2025: a year that reinforces Vidrala’s strength

Vidrala has presented its Integrated Annual Report 2025, a document that provides an in‑depth review of a demanding year that was, at the same time, full of progress strengthening the Group’s strategic direction. In a context marked by demand below historical levels and increasing competitive pressure, the company maintained its operational focus and accelerated key investments aimed at reinforcing long‑term efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability.

Best environmental performance to date: the emission factor decreased to 0.321 tCO₂/tvf, one of the lowest values in the industry, as a result of a set of actions aimed at strengthening circularity, decarbonising the energy mix, and improving operational efficiency. In this context, the use of recycled material in our processes, including cullet and other recycled inputs, reached 55.4%, consolidating the circularity of our business model. Electricity from renewable sources increased to 70%, driven by our strong investment in on‑site generation and the diversification of the electricity mix. As a result of these combined efforts, market‑based emissions fell by 3.6%, reflecting a cleaner energy mix and operational improvements. Additionally, further investments and efficiency measures helped consolidate a 4% reduction in water consumption, reinforcing more responsible resource management. Looking to the future, we will expand our on‑site renewable generation capacity threefold, reaching 70 MWp across up to ten self‑consumption sites by 2028.

Operational resilience in a complex cycle: diversification across customers, sectors, and markets supported volumes in a challenging environment. Investments in efficiency, modernisation, and service strengthened operational stability and positioned the Group for future cycles.

Strategic progress and foundations for the future: during the year, Vidrala advanced towards a commercial profile more aligned with customer priorities and strengthened its industrial base, a key pillar for future growth. These developments reinforce the company’s position as a reliable, competitive industrial partner committed to the long term.

Looking ahead to the next cycle, the Group continues to build on an operational and commercial foundation increasingly aligned with customer needs. The investment plan remains focused on enhancing the reliability, competitiveness, and sustainability of the business.

Raúl Gómez, CEO of Vidrala, summarises the spirit of the year: “2025 tested Vidrala’s strength and confirmed the solidity of our model in an unfavourable cycle. We enter the next stage with greater robustness and ambition. The best is yet to come.”

The company closed 2025 with sales of €1,465 million and EBITDA of €441 million, while net profit reached €220 million.
The year-on-year comparison is affected by the sale of its Italian business in 2024.L
Strong cash generation exceeded €200 million, enabling net debt to be reduced to €105 million, equivalent to 0.2 times EBITDA.
The company announces a 15% increase in its cash dividend and a share buyback programme representing 1% of share capital.

Llodio (Álava), 25 February 2026. Vidrala, a leading glass packaging manufacturer, has reported full-year 2025 results in line with prior expectations, in a year marked by weak demand and intense competition.

In 2025, sales reached €1,465.2 million (-5.4%), while EBITDA amounted to €441 million, improving the margin to 30.1%. Net profit exceeded €219.6 million, equivalent to €6.24 per share (a 6.8% decrease, excluding the effects of the accounting gain arising from the sale of the Italian business in 2024).

Strong cash generation, which reached €200.1 million, enabled net debt to be reduced to €105.3 million as at 31 December 2025. As a result, leverage remains at low levels, at 0.2 times EBITDA, reflecting the financial strength of the business and providing a competitive advantage to support investment plans.

These results demonstrate the Group’s ability to generate value even in an unfavourable economic cycle. Vidrala’s CEO, Raúl Gómez, stated that they “are a demonstration of the strength of the business we have built and the decisive impact of the measures adopted to drive geographic diversification — with our entry into South America — and the vertical integration of our operations. They also reflect our firm commitment to industrial investment and cost reduction, in order to continuously adapt our products and services to the expectations of brand owners and consumers.”

He added: “We are living through a period of change in the consumer landscape, and I am convinced that glass will consolidate its position as the ultimate packaging material: the consumer’s preferred choice, the most sustainable, infinitely and fully recyclable, and the healthiest option. Looking ahead, we will invest with our customers in mind and with the firm purpose of manufacturing our products and delivering our services in the most reliable, competitive and sustainable way possible, while maintaining strict financial discipline. The future belongs to us.”

Selective international growth

The company continues to advance its strategic priorities with a disciplined and selective international growth vision, focused on developing a business platform in South America, with the aim of consolidating a more diversified and competitive organisation.

In this regard, the recent entry into the Chilean market through the acquisition of Cristalerías Toro, a glass container manufacturer located in the metropolitan area of Santiago de Chile, is particularly noteworthy. This transaction strengthens Vidrala’s presence in regions with solid fundamentals and long-term growth potential. The company supplies a broad range of customers in the food and beverage segments, many of them global brands that complement Vidrala’s existing commercial base.

The transaction forms part of Vidrala’s international expanison strategy, under which the Group holds leading positions in Southern Europe, the United Kingdom and Ireland and, since 2023, also in Brazil.

Increased shareholder remuneration

In terms of shareholder remuneration, the company has announced a 15% increase in its annual dividend, raising the total expected distribution to €1.7505 per share during 2026, in line with its policy of gradual growth in remuneration and sustainable value creation.

The first interim dividend payment of €1.2318 per share was paid on 13 February 2026. The second payment, in the form of a final dividend, will amount to €0.4687 per share and will be paid on 15 July 2026. In addition, a €0.05 per share attendance bonus will be offered at the Annual General Meeting.

As an additional extraordinary measure, in December 2025 the company announced a share buyback programme of up to 350,000 shares for a maximum cash amount of €33 million, aimed at supporting shareholder remuneration by increasing earnings per share.

One thousand employees, both direct and from contractor companies, as well as their families and the wider Marinha Grande community, have benefited from the aid measures launched by Vidrala.
The company has highlighted the professionalism and commitment of its teams, together with the effort made to enable the rapid return to normal operations in Portugal.
Vidrala produces more than 2.6 billion bottles per year in Marinha Grande, making the country a strategic hub within the group.

Marinha Grande, 11 February 2026. The Vidrala Group, a leading glass packaging manufacturer, immediately activated an extraordinary support plan for nearly one thousand direct and contractor employees, as well as their families, following the storm that struck the Leiria district on 28 January. With winds exceeding 210 kilometres per hour, the storm caused significant material damage and left Marinha Grande without critical supplies for both the population and industry, including electricity, water, communications and transport.

Marinha Grande is the world’s largest glass-producing region. Vidrala sustains 900 direct jobs, making it one of the largest employers in Leiria, while also generating a further 300 indirect jobs. Its contribution to the local economic fabric strengthens regional development and cohesion through the consolidation of a logistics hub, the prioritisation of local suppliers, contributions to local public revenues linked to its activity, and support for community events and initiatives.

Following Storm Kristin, the company consistently prioritised safety, people’s wellbeing and access to basic supplies through a range of measures, including a free canteen service for all Vidrala employees, the distribution of 13,000 litres of drinking water and more than 500 kilograms of fruit to take home, and the extension of factory shower access to families. It also donated thousands of metres of protective sheeting for damaged homes and temporary roof repairs, supplied diesel for employees’ cars, organised children’s activities, introduced internal flexibility arrangements to allow for family care and administrative matters, and coordinated a mental-health support workshop together with an advisory service for insurance and institutional procedures. If necessary, Vidrala will further reinforce its support, as this community deserves it.

In addition, Vidrala has led neighbourhood support through direct and regular engagement with public institutions, resulting in the provision of generators to restore essential municipal services, the donation of 6,000 roof tiles and further thousands of metres of protective sheeting for temporary roof repairs, and the voluntary provision of welding services as well as a forklift truck and driver. Vidrala has also made donations to local associations such as ADESER II, a private social-solidarity organisation, and remains in contact with them to promote complementary measures and volunteer actions supporting the community’s recovery in the short, medium and long term.

Glass made good

Vidrala operates two industrial facilities in Marinha Grande with annual production of 2.6 billion bottles. In recent years, the group has made significant investments in efficiency and sustainability projects across both the plants and the logistics warehouse. This industrial scale and investment effort consolidate Portugal as a strategic pillar within the group.

Despite sustaining material damage, the activation of contingency plans made it possible to maintain production activity at the plants and guarantee supply to customers. Vidrala expresses its gratitude for the professionalism and commitment of its workforce, whose decisive contribution enabled the swift return to normal operations.

Rui Santos, Director of Vidrala’s plants in Portugal, addressed his teams with the following words: “We know that, in Marinha Grande, we are living through one of the most difficult moments in our history. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for the dedication of every one of you. Your commitment to the company is the key factor enabling us to overcome all the challenges we have faced in recent days. I sincerely thank you for the professionalism, commitment and effort you have all shown in restoring normal operations, knowing that many of you were also affected in your own homes and belongings. Marinha Grande is not just the place where we work; it is the home of our people. Once again, thank you for your efforts and for being who you are, today more than ever.”

Llodio, 18 December 2025 – Following last week’s announcement of a strategic move with its entry into Chile and progress in the geographical diversification of its business, Vidrala sends a clear message of financial strength and confidence in business prospects by boosting the proposed shareholder remuneration for 2026.

Accordingly, the company has approved a cash dividend of €1.2318 gross per share, payable on 13 February 2026. Including the effect of the new shares allocated free of charge after the bonus share issue, this represents a 15% increase compared to the previous year.

As an additional and extraordinary measure, the company has decided to execute a new share buyback programme equivalent to 1% of its share capital, amounting to €33 million, which represents an additional 54% on top of the dividend outlay.

Vidrala has signed a binding agreement for the acquisition of Cristalerías Toro, a company specialising in the production and sale of glass containers in Chile.
The transaction represents a new strategic step for Vidrala, driving its growth, enhancing its geographical diversification and strengthening its business platform in Latin America.
The group expects to maintain a solid financial position, with consolidated net debt consistently below 0.5 times annual EBITDA following completion of the transaction, which is scheduled for early 2026.

Llodio, 11 December 2025.- The Vidrala group, a leading company in the manufacture of glass containers, has signed a binding agreement for the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of the Chilean company Cristalerías Toro, a glass container manufacturer located in the metropolitan area of Santiago de Chile. The glassmaker serves a wide range of customers in the food and beverage segments, many of them global and complementary to Vidralas’s commercial base.

This acquisition is part of Vidrala’s internationalisation strategy, through which the company maintains significant positions in Southern Europe, the United Kingdom and, since 2023, in Brazil. With this new transaction, Vidrala would strengthen its presence in Latin America with an industrial base in Chile, a country with a strong industrial tradition in the agri-food and beverage sectors and a market characterised by the presence of strategic customers for the group.

The transaction, valued at approximately 77 million euros, is subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions that are key to the rollout of the group’s industrial model. Following completion of the transaction, scheduled for early 2026, the company expects to maintain a solid financial position, with consolidated net debt consistently below 0.5 times annual EBITDA.

Vidrala acknowledges the track record, commitment and quality of the work that the shareholders and teams of Cristalerías Toro have demonstrated over the years, and relies on them to lay the foundations for a future project aligned with the challenges and opportunities of the sector.

Jaume Serra and Vidrala revolutionise the cava sector with CAVA LITE, the lightest bottle on the market

Jaume Serra, a winery owned by the García Carrión Group, presents the new CAVA LITE bottle, weighing 750 grams and becoming the lightest in its segment.
In terms of sustainability, for every million bottles produced, more than 15 tonnes of CO2 emissions will be avoided and over 740 tonnes of glass will be saved.

Madrid, 28 October 2025. Jaume Serra, a leading winery in the production of cava in Spain, is recognised for its commitment to innovation and sustainability. In line with these values, and in collaboration with Vidrala, a leading manufacturer of glass containers, it has developed the new CAVA LITE bottle for its range of cavas and sparkling wines. Weighing just 750 grams, this design sets a new record in its segment, reducing the previous benchmark of 775 grams.

Production of this new bottle will take place at Vidrala’s plant in Castellar del Vallès and will be delivered to the Jaume Serra winery, located just 65 kilometres away. This proximity reinforces the strategy of reducing the carbon footprint through efficient planning and logistics.

A lighter and more sustainable bottle

Manufactured in an elegant dark green colour, the new bottle represents a significant step forward in reducing emissions and using materials more efficiently, while at the same time ensuring the strength and quality required to guarantee product safety.

The new 750-gram bottle means a 6.25% reduction in CO2 emissions per bottle compared with the previous 800-gram format. This change translates into a major improvement on a large scale: each million bottles produced will reduce emissions by more than 15 tonnes of CO2 compared with the previous model, equivalent to the annual emissions of 232 petrol-powered cars.

Commitment to the environment

This development reaffirms the commitment of both companies to sustainability. It is the continuation of a historic collaboration in packaging innovation and lightweighting, which began in the 1970s with the development of a 300-gram wine bottle. Since then, García Carrión and Vidrala have been pioneers and benchmarks in the sector.

This new launch, the 750-gram cava bottle, not only improves the brand’s environmental impact, but also sets a precedent in the cava and sparkling wine industry, encouraging other players to follow this path.

With this initiative, Jaume Serra strengthens its leadership in the market and actively contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aligning with the demands of today’s consumers who value more responsible and sustainable products.

For Vidrala, the launch of this new bottle reinforces its long-term lightweighting strategy, initiated with the BD NOVA LITE and BD VIVA LITE bottles, progressively expanding this range of containers without compromising quality or strength. This approach enables the company to optimise resource use, reduce its carbon footprint and support the competitiveness of its customers.

260G is a revolutionary lightweight glass bottle, to be featured in the Portuguese Pavilion’s "Meaningful Partnerships" exhibition.
Developed in collaboration by LiDA and Vidrala, 260G is the result of a long-term partnership.
Made with up to 80% recycled glass, the bottle sets a new benchmark in eco-efficient wine packaging.
Its versatile format is optimised for a wide range of high-quality products, including wines, craft beverages, spirits, oils and more.

Osaka, 9th August 2025. Vidrala, one of Europe’s leading glass packaging manufacturers, presented its latest innovation at Expo 2025 Osaka, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and collaborative innovation on a global stage. The 260G bottle, probably the world’s lightest 75cl bottle, took centre stage in the “Meaningful Partnerships” exhibition, held at the Portuguese Pavilion on August 8 and 9.

The 260G project is the result of a close collaboration between LiDA (Laboratory in Design and Arts at the Polytechnic of Leiria) and Vidrala, through its operations in Portugal, in partnership with research centres, industry stakeholders, and museums. It serves as a powerful example of how long-term partnerships between academia, industry, and society, grounded in shared knowledge and mutual trust, can drive meaningful progress toward a more sustainable and inclusive future.

Engineered with ultra-thin walls and made with up to 80% recycled glass, the 260G bottle pushes the boundaries of what is technically possible in glass packaging. By reducing the glass surface area by 20% compared to standard bottles, it achieves a substantial reduction in weight and environmental impact without compromising structural integrity or design quality. Its versatile design makes 260G suitable for high-quality applications across wines, spirits, specialty beverages, oils and other premium products.

Transforming tomorrow

At Expo 2025, an exclusive edition of the 260G bottle was presented, paired with a premium wine from Esporão, offering a compelling vision of the future of wine packaging: lighter, more efficient, and more respectful of the planet’s resources.

The 260G was one of three innovative research projects selected for the “Meaningful Partnerships” showcase, which forms part of Embalagem do Futuro (Packaging of the Future), a strategic national initiative that brings together 79 companies, research laboratories and academic institutions. The initiative aims to transform Portugal’s packaging sector through innovation that is sustainable, digital, and inclusive.

By participating in Expo 2025 Osaka, Vidrala not only highlighted the potential of glass as a circular, high-performance material, but also demonstrated how collaborative innovation can shape the packaging solutions of tomorrow.

Guided by Víctor Tolosa, Director of Vidrala's European Division, the institutional delegation toured the facilities to gain first-hand insight into the progress made in market adaptation, sustainability, energy efficiency, and productivity.
A meeting was also held with the Group's Management to address key concepts such as the urgent need for energy conditions that enhance competitiveness and for institutional support for industrial investment, as a driving force in the face of a new industrial reality that demands assistance.

Vidrala’s plant in Laudio, which produces glass containers, has been the meeting point for institutional representatives from the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Álava, who came to learn in detail about the potential of the ambitious industrial renewal project that Vidrala is planning for its headquarters in the Aiala Valley. This comprehensive plan represents a strong commitment to developing industry in a more sustainable and profitable way, promoting an export-driven approach and reinforcing Vidrala’s dedication to the industrial and economic development of the region. The initiative is part of a far-reaching investment strategy set by the Vidrala Group, which will adopt a more selective approach and readjust production capacities across its five European plants in response to a more demanding market environment that requires improved competitive conditions.

Representing the Basque Government on the visit were Mikel Jauregi, Minister for Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability; Andoitz Korta, Deputy Minister for Industrial Promotion; and Irantzu Allende, Deputy Minister for Energy Transition. They were joined by Ramiro González, General Deputy of Álava, and Ander Larrinaga, Director of Economic Development. The entire delegation took part in a guided tour to observe the improvements implemented by Vidrala in areas such as market adaptation, sustainability, energy efficiency, and productivity.

Focus on Sustainable Competitiveness

In the second part of the visit, the delegation met with Raúl Gómez, CEO of Vidrala; Víctor Tolosa, Managing Director of Vidrala’s European Division; Elena Gárate, Director of Administration and Financial Control; Galo Álvarez, Chief of Sustainability and Corporate Development; and Joseba Fernández de Mendía, Chief of People. The meeting reviewed the strategic objectives of the investment plan and its contribution to local value creation. Key strategic issues for industry were addressed during the session, including the urgent need for access to energy under competitive conditions, the essential role of public support in strengthening the industrial fabric, and the firm investment commitment to transitioning towards low-carbon processes that are both more environmentally efficient and economically viable.

Raúl Gómez, CEO of Vidrala, emphasised: "We have taken on the challenge of positioning ourselves as the leading glass producer in terms of competitiveness, export capacity, market adaptation, and profitability. We manufacture glass – the ultimate sustainable material, infinitely recyclable, and the most inert and healthiest packaging for preserving food and beverages, avoiding the presence of microplastics. We have the people, the technological capability, the investment ambition, and the international scale in Europe, the UK and South America to position ourselves in a more demanding economic context, to attract major clients, and to satisfy consumers. But we need competitiveness – it is a non-negotiable requirement. Regional, social, and economic progress depends on building a competitive industry, and we cannot do it alone. In a turbulent context and with a clear threat to Basque industry, to make our industrial commitment and job guarantees a reality, we need investment and infrastructure support."

"Basque industry is energy-intensive and requires a public-private commitment to develop an energy policy aimed at strengthening business competitiveness, ensuring accessible and viable energy across all sources. The green transition must be built on a solid foundation of competitiveness in energy infrastructure. However, the development of renewable energy and the electrification of the high-power grid have clearly lagged behind our neighbouring competitors. Recent events, such as the war in Ukraine or the April blackout, highlight more than ever a clear message: the lack of access to competitive energy today will be the brake on tomorrow. We are grateful for the strong support of current institutions in developing policies which, we are convinced, will allow Basque industry to move ahead of our neighbouring competitors,” Gómez concluded.

Minister Mikel Jauregi acknowledged the Basque industry’s strong commitment to decarbonisation and the electrical requirements this entails for businesses: "As a country, we are clear about our goal: to reach net zero emissions by 2050. To achieve this, we must accelerate the pace of decarbonising our industry, while safeguarding competitiveness and employment. A decisive factor in this process is the electricity demand of industry in order to undertake decarbonisation processes. We have companies ready to make major commitments in this area, but they are unable to do so because there is no socket to plug into. Basque industry accounts for 53% of total electricity consumption, which is why we urgently need to increase the capacity and resilience of the electricity grid. We need an additional 6,000 megawatts of new capacity to meet the needs of our industry, and a clear and sustained investment to improve the grid. We’ve been working for months with the central government to ensure these investments can be realised. In the face of the energy bottleneck threatening our industry, failure to invest in additional capacity or to improve the grid could jeopardise the jobs of over 70,000 people in Euskadi."

Meanwhile, the General Deputy of Álava, Ramiro González, highlighted: "Vidrala is a clear example of a company deeply rooted in the territory of Álava, which has successfully adapted to changing times throughout its history. Today, it is a highly digitalised plant, pioneering the use of technologies such as robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Vision in its production processes to improve efficiency and competitiveness. It is a company committed to its environment, carrying the names of Araba and Aiala around the world and, thanks to the planned investments, Laudio will host a flagship plant that will demonstrate how the application of technology can contribute to the industrial decarbonisation of our entire region."

Comments on the Awarded Projects

NEWTON – First Prize (Author: Pablo Ugarte, University of Deusto)

Designed for the consumption of cider, Newton presents a fresh take on a traditional drink. The jury highlighted its contemporary, functional, and visually appealing design, as well as its individual format — a rarity in this category. The innovative opening system reinterprets the cider-pouring ritual while maintaining a connection to tradition.

The design establishes a clear link with the product through consistent visual communication referencing apples, reflected in both the naming and graphic identity. The use of sustainable materials for the cap and label was particularly valued, including the idea of producing handmade paper from apple waste for labelling at home.

AMPELOS – Accessit (Author: María Arroyo, University of Deusto)

Designed for grape juice, this project stands out for its formal elegance and evocative capacity. The jury appreciated how the design brings new dignity to a drink often overshadowed by wine, aligning with alcohol-free consumption trends. Inspired by the shape of an amphora, the design evokes Mediterranean cultural references and shows coherence across all elements, from naming to graphics. A concept that restores symbolic value to grape juice while remaining commercially attractive.

GARABATO – Accessit (Author: Diego Martín, University of Navarra)

This cherry jam jar from Valle del Jerte was recognised for its poetic and conceptual depth. Inspired by a deformed spoon, this piece pays tribute to tools such as the hook and the chestnut baskets used in cherry harvesting. The jury highlighted the balance between form and meaning, and the use of traditional elements within a contemporary proposal. The author's personal story added authenticity to a project presented with great aesthetic sensitivity.

SKIRLA – Accessit (Author: Sharvin Javier Romero, Complutense University of Madrid)

A design for hot sauce packaging that stands out for its strong visual and graphic impact. Inspired by a fragmented grenade, it breaks away from the sector's typical geometric codes. The labelling is well-resolved, and the technical execution is high-quality, making the design ready for commercialisation. The jury appreciated its expressive diversity and strong shelf impact.

Vidrala wishes to express its sincere thanks to all participants in the 10th edition of the Master Glass Design Contest: it has been truly inspiring to see 140 creative minds come together to imagine the future of the glass industry.

The Deputy Regional Ministers for Energy Transition, Iranzu Allende, and for Industrial Promotion, Andoitz Korta, accompanied the Lehendakari on his visit to the renovated Aiala Vidrio facilities to learn about the Company's advances in sustainability, innovation and safety.

Despite the difficult industrial context, Vidrala has reactivated an investment plan in Llodio that is synonymous with the future both for the company and for the province of Alava.

Vidrala today welcomed the Lehendakari of the Basque Government, Imanol Pradales, and the Deputy Regional Ministers for Energy Transition, Iranzu Allende, and Industrial Promotion, Andoitz Korta, to its corporate headquarters in Llodio, where they toured the new production facilities at the Llodio plant. The Chairman of Vidrala, Carlos Delclaux, and the CEO of the Group, Raúl Gómez, explained to the institutional delegation that the new Aiala Vidrio furnace is synonymous with the future both for the Company and for the province of Álava, where the glassworks was founded 60 years ago.

‘Today, from our decision centre in Llodio, we lead a group that produces more than 9,000 million glass containers a year, a benchmark in the global glass industry, leader in the Iberian Peninsula, with a strong export character to France and Germany, leader in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and an important player in South America through our entry into Brazil’, stressed the president. For his part, Raúl Gómez pointed out: ‘Despite the difficult and uncertain context in which Basque industry finds itself, exacerbated by the prolonged electricity disruption on Monday, Vidrala has decided to reactivate investments in the Llodio plant that exceed 75 million euros. But the success of this commitment requires two key factors: a good social climate and the support of the institutions. Only together will we guarantee a future for Vidrala in Llodio’.

Led by Víctor Tolosa, Director of the Vidrala Europe business division, the visit to the facilities focused on the technological advances that the Company is implementing in key areas such as energy efficiency, decarbonisation, process digitalisation and equipment safety. The tour culminated with the iconic commissioning of the new Aiala Vidrio furnace, a key infrastructure in Vidrala's industrial strategy and an investment that reinforces the Group's commitment to its Llodio plant and to the economic development of the region. The new furnace, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, will improve the energy efficiency of the process, reduce emissions and increase production capacity, guaranteeing the plant's competitiveness in the long term.

After visiting the new facilities, the Lehendakari Imanol Pradales said: ‘We must encourage and support the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industrial sectors, which are vulnerable to fluctuations in the price of fossil fuels. The Basque institutions as a whole are doing this: improving the tax incentive package for companies that invest in energy transition, allocating direct and specific aid, and promoting driving projects such as the Basque Hydrogen Corridor, one of whose actions will consist precisely of building a 70-kilometre hydroduct between the Port of Bilbao and Aiaraldea in order to transport green hydrogen for the industrial fabric of this region’.

The institutional visit reaffirms Vidrala's role as one of the major industrial benchmarks in the Basque Country, with a constant commitment to innovation, territorial roots and long-term sustainability.

Introducing the BD VIVA LITE 75 CL bottle: lighter and sustainable

The new BD VIVA LITE with a capacity of 75 cl reduces its weight to 300 grams and maintains the shape and strength of the predecessor bottle.
For every million bottles produced, more than 48 tonnes of CO2 emissions between white and coloured glass will be avoided.
The new bottle is part of the packaging lightening strategy launched by the company with the launch of the BD NOVA LITE in 2024.

Vidrala takes a new step in its strategy of container lightweighting with the launch of BD VIVA LITE 75 CL, the new bottle significantly reduces its weight while maintaining its design and robustness. Thanks to this optimisation, the bottle has registered a significant reduction in the consumption of raw materials, water and in the carbon footprint associated with its production and transport, consolidating Vidrala as a benchmark in sustainable packaging.
The new BD VIVA LITE weighs only 300 grams, which a few years ago was a difficult figure to achieve industrially for its height and diameter. This redesign, the result of R&D efforts, translates into multiple environmental benefits compared to its predecessor, the BD VIVA. For every million bottles produced, the new BD VIVA LITE 75 CL will reduce CO₂ emissions by 19,324 kg for coloured glass and 28,840 kg for white glass.
The production of this new design means savings in the use of natural resources and fuels, reducing the consumption of 45,000 kilos of raw materials, 8,580 litres of water, 52,960 kWh of fossil fuel and 9,821 kWh of electricity.
This launch is a continuation of Vidrala's strategic plan for the development of a new range of lightweight packaging. Initiated in 2024 with the BD NOVA LITE bottle, the plan will progress in the coming months with the presentation of new containers that will make up the new range. Through this approach, we reinforce our commitment to sustainability in the glass industry, offering our customers more competitive and environmentally friendly packaging solutions.

Vidrala champions circular economy by reusing biomass waste in innovative, sustainable production of glass bottles in Spain

The pilot project has enabled the production of 18.3 million glass bottles using 230 tons of biomass slag.
This collaboration with Acciona Energía not only optimises the manufacturing process, but also sets a standard for sustainability in the sector.

Vidrala, a leading company in the design and manufacture of sustainable glass containers, has undertaken an innovative pilot project in Spain in collaboration with Acciona Energía, focused on the reuse of biomass slag in the production process of 18.3 million glass bottles.

The pilot used 230 tonnes of biomass slag generated during the combustion of biomass at Acciona’s renewable electricity generation plant in Briviesca, Burgos. The waste generated from the burning of biomass is known as ‘slag’.

This material contains a high percentage of silica, a key component in glass manufacturing. Its reuse has significantly reduced the need for silica sand and replaced part of the sodium carbonate, optimising the production process and reducing the environmental footprint.

Following a research and testing process for slag treatment, the process has been successfully adapted, meeting all the strength and durability requirements characteristic of glass bottles produced through the usual process. The slag treatment was carried out in Asturias, while the bottles were manufactured at the Aiala Vidrio plant in Llodio in northern Spain.

The reuse of biomass slag contributes to Acciona Energía’s goal of giving a second life to waste and by-products derived from its activities, while promoting the circular economy and reducing CO2 emissions. This represents a clear example of industrial symbiosis between its business lines.

For Vidrala, this breakthrough strengthens its commitment to sustainability and the circular economy by promoting innovative solutions that minimise the use of natural resources and enhance the reuse of industrial by-products.

Galo Álvarez, Vidrala’s Sustainability Director, stated: “This project demonstrates the immense potential of collaborations between leading companies like Acciona and Vidrala to drive sustainability in the glass industry. By incorporating by-products such as biomass slag into our production process, we not only reduce the use of virgin raw materials but also decrease our environmental footprint, fostering a more efficient production model aligned with the circular economy. At Vidrala, we are convinced that these kinds of initiatives are key to ensuring a more sustainable future for the entire industry.”

This project has received funding from CDTI (Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology), under the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Our Encirc division hosts UK Prime Minister

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited our Encirc division's plant in Elton on 4 October, accompanied by the Chancellor and the Energy Secretary. During the visit, the Prime Minister announced a funding package aimed at reducing emissions from UK industry. This plan, which includes £21.7 billion over the next 25 years, aims to boost the adoption of technologies such as carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) and green hydrogen.

The announcement will see major funding for two carbon capture sites which will inject growth into the industrial heartlands of the North West and North East of England. The plans have been welcomed by Encirc as it continues to lead the way on decarbonisation.

Encirc, which has operations in Derrylin, Elton and Bristol, is a market leader in the UK glass manufacturing sector and a key player globally, producing over 3 billion glass containers every year and catering to some of the world’s most prominent brands.

Encirc Managing Director Sean Murphy welcomed the announcement, saying;

“Encirc is delighted to have played host to the Prime Minister, Chancellor and Energy Secretary at our facility in Chester today.

“The government’s announcement is a huge step forward for sustainable manufacturers like ourselves and will help support the journey towards the production of billions of low carbon glass bottles and jars for global food and drinks brands across the UK.

“As a business with sustainability at its core, Encirc has been a longtime innovator in finding ways to reduce our carbon footprint, both in the manufacturing process as well as in logistics and supply chain.

“The regional focus is a sign of confidence for businesses here in the North West, and we hope further afield, including places like Fermanagh which are often left behind.

“We look forward to working with UK Government on a range of issues to ensure that the right conditions are in place to enable inclusive green growth that benefits everyone across society.”

Raúl Gómez, CEO of the Vidrala Group, added: “We are proud to have welcomed Sir Keir Starmer, Rt Hon Rachel Reeves and Ed Miliband to our unique Elton site.

“These are quite challenging times for the consumer industry in the UK and today, more than ever, we need support, protection and investment. This is why we are appreciative of the visit and the government’s commitment to this strategic investment in green energy that will help ensure that our glass is the most sustainable packaging of choice, made in the UK, for British consumers.

“The Vidrala Group remains firmly committed to Encirc and will further promote its future with an ambitious industrial plan that will include employment, investment and improvements in sustainability, with our customer in mind. Big congratulations to all our people in Encirc, led by our MD Sean Murphy and his fantastic leadership team.”

Vidrala signs a PPA with Acciona Energía to supply its plants in Spain and Portugal with renewable energy

The PPA will avoid the emission of 150,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Acciona Energía will supply between 20% and 25% of Vidrala's electricity needs.
This PPA adds to a previous supply agreement that Vidrala has maintained with Acciona since 2018 in Portugal.

Vidrala, a leading company in the design and manufacture of glass containers, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with ACCIONA Energía for the supply of renewable energy that will cover between 20% and 25% of the company's electricity needs over the next 10 years.

The contract will come into effect in January 2025 and will allow Vidrala to source clean electricity for its operations at several manufacturing plants in Llodio (Álava), Caudete (Albacete), Castellar del Vallés (Barcelona), and Marinha Grande (Portugal). All the energy will be 100% renewable and sourced from ACCIONA Energía's wind farms.

This is the first PPA that Vidrala integrates into its decarbonization strategy to reduce emissions, and thanks to it, will avoid the emission of 150,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere during the contract's duration. Along with self-consumption projects and Guarantees of Origin (GOs), PPAs form the company's plans for the decarbonization of 100% of its electricity consumption by 2030. In this way, Vidrala strengthens its position as a leader in industrial sustainability while ensuring a cleaner, more diversified, secure, and competitive energy supply.

Galo Álvarez, Vidrala's Sustainability Director, highlighted the importance of this strategic alliance with ACCIONA Energía: "This agreement marks a significant milestone in our commitment to reduce our environmental footprint and promote sustainability in our value chain. By partnering with ACCIONA Energía, we reaffirm our commitment to decarbonization and lay the foundations for sustainable growth."

This contract, for which Vidrala has been advised by Advanced Energy Consulting (AEC), adds to the supply agreement that the companies have had since 2018 in Portugal, where ACCIONA Energía supplies renewable electricity to the Gallo Vidro and SB Vidros plants that Vidrala operates in the town of Marinha Grande.

With this milestone, Vidrala reaffirms its position as a pioneer in sustainability within the glass industry by committing to long-term sustainable energy solutions and advancing the transition towards a cleaner and more planet-friendly future for the industry.

Vidrala outlines planned succession whereby current CFO Raúl Gómez will succeed Gorka Schmitt as CEO, effective June 30, 2024

Trading update confirms expected solid business performance at the start of the year, grounded on the new business perimeter

Agenda for the Annual General Meeting, announced today, includes a proposal for an extraordinary dividend of EUR 4.00 per share, conditioned upon the effective sale of Vidrala Italia

Vidrala announces today that, as a result of a planned succession process, its Board of Directors has elected current Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Raúl Gómez, as next Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective June 30, 2024. The Board will consider the current CEO, Gorka Schmitt, to be proposed to serve as a member of the Board.

“It has been a privilege be part of Vidrala for more than 26 years and serve as CEO for the past successful 13 years. I have been fortunate to have worked with a great team at a great company delivering superior results, and I will support Raúl to secure an efficient transition”, said Gorka Schmitt.

“I am honoured and grateful to receive the confidence of the Board, proud to take responsibility and build on Gorka’s legacy by further strengthening the Group’s leading position and executing on the many compelling opportunities ahead,” said Raúl Gómez. “We are today a different and stronger company, with leading competitive positions in growing markets, a clear strategy after a deliberate refocus in core regions, and a talented and agile team for continued profitable growth. I promise that customers, cost, and capital will firmly dictate our strategic and management principles. I look forward to working with our Board, leadership team and all our people to continue creating superior value for our shareholders, with our customer in mind and with the firm aim to make our products and serve our markets in the most sustainable way.”

The Board of Directors would like to thank Gorka for his remarkable leadership. During his 13-year tenure, the team has transformed Vidrala, simultaneously delivering superior performance while creating even greater future potential. Raúl has been a close partner in the executive team over the years, playing a relevant role in the corporate actions that have accelerated the company’s growth and diversification, while maintaining a solid financial position. With the company well positioned, the Board considers it is the right time to transition the role to Raúl and expresses its confidence in his leadership capabilities to successfully face future business challenges.

Vidrala confirms solid business performance at the start of the year

The new perimeter after the integration of Vidroporto in Brazil is progressively contributing to superior growth. Moreover, demand is showing signs of stabilisation in all regions of activity, at a time when our customer service level is particularly well positioned to capture this context. Finally, competitiveness levels are improving, driven by the ambitious investments made to realign the industrial footprint.

As a result, the company reiterates that the business is showing the anticipated growth trends and underlying profits are expected to remain safe in Europe and the UK, complemented by solid trends in Brazil. Further details will be provided during the Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held on April 30, 2024, at which time the official guidance for the full year 2024 will be communicated.

Proposes an extraordinary dividend of EUR 4.00 per share, conditioned upon the effective sale of Vidrala Italia

The agenda for the AGM -announced today and available here- includes a proposal for an extraordinary dividend of EUR 4.00 per share conditioned upon the effective sale of Vidrala Italia. Remember that, on February 28, 2024, the company announced an agreement to sell the Italian subsidiary, a divestment that comes after deep strategic reflection and that will help Vidrala re-focus on core regions while crystallise the opportunity to realise the value created. The closing of the transaction is still subject to the customary approvals.

In case the transaction is closed, the aforementioned extraordinary dividend would be added to the previously announced results distribution proposal of EUR 1.4455 per share -including EUR 4.00 cents per share offered as attendance bonus to the AGM- which already represented a 20% increase in the annual dividend, considering the effect of the new shares assigned free of charge after the last bonus share issue.

Additionally, Vidrala is currently executing a share buy-back programme, through which up to a maximum of 330,000 shares will be acquired for a maximum cash amount of EUR 33 million. The purpose of the programme is to reduce the share capital of Vidrala by the redemption of own shares, with the aim of contributing to the shareholders’ remuneration policy through the increase in earnings per share corresponding to each shareholder.

Vidrala acquires the entire share capital of the Brazilian company Vidroporto S.A. for a total of 384 million euros at the current exchange rate.
The transaction is part of the investment plan announced by Vidrala, which aims to gradually grow in the Latin American market.
In February 2023 Vidrala announced the purchase of 29.36% of the Brazilian company for 53 million euros.

Vidrala has announced the acquisition of the entire share capital of Vidroporto S.A. ("Vidroporto") for €384 million at current exchange rates. This figure includes the minority stake acquired at the beginning of the year, the remaining majority stake acquired now and the debt assumed in the Brazilian company.

With this transaction Vidrala continues its internationalisation process and expects it to contribute positively to the group's consolidated profits and cash generation from the start of its integration. The acquisition of Vidroporto represents an important step for Vidrala's long-term strategy, as it boosts the diversification of the business towards the growing Brazilian market and represents a base for potential future development in regions that will offer interesting opportunities and will strengthen long-term alliances with strategic customers.

According to Gorka Schmitt, CEO of Vidrala, "We continuously analyse and assess the different opportunities that arise in the various markets. This strategic move lays the foundations for establishing a platform for the future, in regions that show promising potential for the growth of our people and our project".

Vidroporto, with its subsidiary Indústria Vidreira do Nordeste, is a competitive Brazilian producer of glass containers, founded on an excellent industrial heritage. It has an experienced management team and strong business relationships with strategic customers. It also operates two high-tech plants located in Porto Ferreira, São Paulo state, southeast region, and Estância, Sergipe state, northeast region, from where it supplies containers to some of Brazil's leading brands in segments such as beer, spirits and soft drinks.

In the full year 2023, Vidroporto expects sales of approximately R$850 million and EBITDA of approximately R$300 million. It is worth noting that the Porto Ferreira plant has received a significant expansionary investment this year, which is fully disbursed through local debt amounting to approximately R$ 900 million at the date of the closing of the transaction. The new facility, which has increased Vidroporto's total production capacity by 35%, started operations at the beginning of the second half of this year and is expected to have an impact on results in 2024.

Vidrala has introduced the lightest Bordeaux cork finished wine bottle on the market at 300 mm in height, weighing 360 grams. This bottle represents a significant milestone in innovation and sustainability for the wine industry.

The Bordeaux bottle, named BD NOVA LITE, is unique in the market, offering a weight reduction of almost 8% compared to predecessor bottles in the same height range. The innovation lies not only in its design, but also in the industrial capacity to maintain the quality and availability of the product, which will mean significant savings for the glass company's customers. The new bottle is now available in two colours, flint and moss/Eurogreen. In addition, it will have two finish options: traditional cork and screw cap.

This new bottle is the result of years of development and coordination of different areas of the company, as well as a significant milestone in innovation and design, as it employs advanced press-blowing technology, which guarantees efficiency and quality in each unit. Despite its reduced weight, it assures customers of equivalent performance in terms of quality, durability and strength.

In terms of sustainability, the new bottle will bring significant advances. For every million bottles, it will save up to 31 tonnes of raw materials. It will also contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, avoiding the emission of up to 7 tonnes of greenhouse gases (scope 1 + 2), the approximate equivalent of the emissions of 72 diesel vehicles travelling the Madrid-Barcelona distance. The company expects to manufacture and sell hundreds of millions of this new bottle.

This alliance reinforces Vidrala's goal of making its glass factories the most sustainable and energy efficient in the world by 2030.

Norvento Enerxía will help to reduce its dependence on fossil energy sources, boost self-consumption and improve its overall energy efficiency.
The agreement includes aspects such as the evaluation of technologies to advance in its energy transition through solutions such as electrification, hydrogen, and renewable energies.

The glass container manufacturing and sales company Vidrala has reached a strategic agreement with the Spanish engineering company specialised in renewable energy generation solutions, Norvento Enerxía, to work together on its decarbonisation plan. This alliance will further Vidrala's goal of making its glass factories the most sustainable and energy-efficient in the world by 2030.

Thanks to this agreement, both companies strengthen the relationship they have maintained for years with the aim of reducing Vidrala's dependence on fossil energy sources and CO2 emissions, adopting self-consumption of energy with controlled costs and improving the efficiency of its energy consumption model. The company, which produces more than 8,000 million containers a year, has placed its trust in the Galician company to accelerate its transition towards new, more flexible, competitive, and environmentally friendly energy supply models.

More efficient and sustainable glass

The new partnership focuses on three strategic lines aligned with Vidrala's Decarbonisation Plan. Firstly, Norvento Enerxía will help to promote sustainable energy generation sources, identifying, assessing, designing, and implementing renewable solutions for electricity and thermal generation that can be integrated into the company's production chain.

In addition, the energy company will carry out the same study process for the implementation of alternative technologies and innovative energy operation strategies for Vidrala to operate as sustainably, flexibly, and economically as possible. The third and final line of action is aimed at identifying areas of opportunity for energy investment and collaboration in the monitoring of local policies in the geographies of each production centre.

In short, Norvento Enerxía will act as strategic consultant, engineering, specialist, and manager of the energy assets in which Vidrala will invest in the coming years.

Self-consumption projects in progress

As a result of this collaboration, Norvento Enerxía has participated in the construction project of the electricity generation plant using photovoltaic solar technology at Vidrala's factory, Crisnova, located in Caudete, Castilla La Mancha. This plant, which produces around 900 million glass containers a year, has a capacity of 12 MW. It is the largest solar project in the glass industry in Spain and will reduce the emission of 9,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.

In addition, at an international level, the Galician company has also participated in different energy projects in the company's factories in Portugal and the United Kingdom. The latter has the largest glass production furnace in Europe and is studying the possibility of covering its demand by wind power, exploring, in turn, the possibility of using green hydrogen.

Juan Morilla, Operations Director of Norvento Enerxía, says "for Norvento Enerxía it is a privilege to have the trust of Vidrala to advance in its decarbonisation plan. We are sure that our experience and capabilities accumulated throughout the life cycle of renewable energy projects - from promotion to operation - together with our extensive knowledge of the company, the result of years of collaboration, will allow us to help them in their energy strategy and to implement pioneering projects in their sector".

Fiacre O'Donell, Vidrala's Sustainability Director, said: "We are very pleased to continue to count on Norvento Enerxias as a partner in achieving our ambitious SBT targets, approved earlier this year, which will position us on the path to becoming the world's most sustainable glassmaker by 2030”.

• Hydrogen powered furnace will create the world’s first net zero glass bottles at scale

• The new ultra-low carbon hybrid glass furnace in Elton, Cheshire, to begin glass production in 2027

• By 2030, the aim is for the furnace to produce up to 200 million net zero bottles of Smirnoff, Captain Morgan, Gordon’s and Tanqueray

Encirc, a Vidrala company, is a leading glass manufacturer and co-packer, and Diageo, global leader in premium alcoholic drinks, have today announced their partnership to create the world’s first net zero glass bottles at scale by 2030.

Encirc plans to build a new furnace at its Elton plant, Cheshire, which will change the face of glass. The furnace will:

• Reduce carbon emissions by 90%, with an energy mix of green electricity and low carbon hydrogen. It is expected that carbon capture technology will capture the remaining carbon emissions by 2030

• Be powered by zero carbon electricity and hydrogen, from the Vertex (HyNet)plant in Cheshire

• Be fully operational by 2027

• Produce up to 200 million Smirnoff, Captain Morgan, Gordon’s and Tanqueray bottles annually by 2030

Encirc is already a leader in sustainable glass production and future-proofing the future of glass. In 2021, Encirc, in collaboration with glass industry partners Glass Futures, trialled one of its furnaces in its Northern Ireland plant on sustainable biofuels on many brands including Diageo’s Black & White bottles, using 100% recycled glass to create the most sustainable bottles ever produced. The bottles had a carbon footprint of up to 90% lower than a standard glass bottle.

Decarbonising glass packaging will be a key part of the UK government’s commitment to reach net zero by 2050 and this is an example of UK leading companies partnering to be innovative in using green energy to manufacture at scale. The hydrogen used to power the new furnace will come from Vertex Hydrogen, a partner of the government-backed HyNet North West cluster – the UK’s leading industrial decarbonisation project.

Glass Futures, based in St Helens, is also playing a key role in supporting the glass industry’s decarbonisation and is a key partner for Encirc. It will be instrumental in trialling sustainable fuels on furnaces and developing the future furnace technology required to support Encirc and the wider glass industry in its goals.

Vidrala announces validation of industry’s most ambitious Science-Based Targets and mission to create the world’s first net-zero glass containers

Leading European glass container manufacturer, Vidrala, has announced that its Science-Based Targets (SBTs) have now been validated. The targets, the most ambitious of their kind, will ensure the organisation operates in a way which helps prevent the planet’s temperature from rising more than 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.

The news represents the next step in Vidrala’s journey to create a sustainable future and make the first net-zero carbon glass containers.

This is a pivotal moment for the organisation as it becomes one of the first in its industry to have Science-Based Targets approved – the framework used to ensure companies’ emissions targets are in line with climate science.

Vidrala is aiming to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 47%, and its Scope 3 emissions by 28% by 2030, helping prevent the worst effects of climate change and future proofing the company.

It is thought the subsequent emission-reducing activity being rolled out across the group will allow Vidrala to become the most sustainable glass business in the world by 2030.

Vidrala’s new targets closely follow a range of ground-breaking environmental activity at its plants throughout Europe. These include the 2021 project with Glass Futures which pioneered the development of the world’s most sustainable glass container using biofuel, and the recent creation of a district heating network around its facility in Corsico, Milan. The latter scheme is now improving air quality in the area and reducing the amount of CO2 being released into the atmosphere by 3,000 tonnes a year. This is all while providing a sustainable supply of energy for the local populace.

Vidrala’s SBTs will pave the way for similar bold environmental initiatives which will ensure the company has a positive impact on its communities, while safeguarding the planet’s future.

This will include creating some of the world's most sustainable glass furnaces, making ground-breaking investments in more environmentally friendly methods of logistics, working with cutting-edge suppliers, and ultimately creating the first zero-emissions glass bottle.

Environmental consultancy, Carbon Intelligence, worked with Vidrala to support its submission to the SBTi. Susie Chalk, Associate Director, added: “Vidrala is leading the way for manufacturers who want to improve the environmental impact of their own value-chain as well as that of their customers. The ground-breaking programme they have in place shows that ambitious change is possible in an industry perceived as difficult to decarbonise.”

Director of Sustainability at Vidrala, Fiacre O’Donnell, commented on the news: "Science Based Targets are the globally recognised, externally verified gold standard in measuring corporate climate action and we’re delighted that our ambitious goals have been approved. We are committing to science-based targets to safeguard our future and make good on our long-term duty to protect our people and the planet. By being more innovative in our way of thinking, and constantly seeking new ways to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, we'll protect and grow jobs, futureproof our business, and continue to create the most sustainable glass containers in the market.”

Vidrala CEO, Gorka Schmitt, added: “We believe that Vidrala has the power to do good, and we know that to be able to have a positive impact, we must be commercially viable in an increasingly environmentally driven world. Signing up to SBTs makes business sense and will give us a more attractive proposition for like-minded customers and partners.”

The SBTs were validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The SBTi is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Vidrala, one of Europe's leading glass producers, has announced the construction of a solar photovoltaic power generation plant, which will be used for consumption in the industrial process, partially substituting fossil and electrical energy from the grid. The facility will be located at the Crisnova plant in Caudete, Castilla La Mancha, and will have a capacity of 12 MW using cutting-edge ground-based technology. The project is part of Vidrala's sustainability and energy efficiency strategy and is a clear demonstration of its commitment to the environment and to the communities where the group operates.

Vidrala has carried out the engineering, technical and economic viability work, urban planning, administrative and environmental procedures, as well as the engineering project under the advisory services of the company Norvento Enerxía. During the first quarter of this year, the construction works have started, with Norvento as project manager and Grupotec in the installation and commissioning of the project, which will avoid the emission of about 9,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.

This initiative is part of the ambitious investment plan launched by the Vidrala Group and is part of the multi-year green agenda focused on improving the sustainability of the glass container production process. The project, which began to be analysed last year, is a reflection of the commitment to climate change and aims to reduce the company's environmental impact.

This action is part of the Vidrala Glass Made Good strategy, implemented through the 4Ps that develop four fundamental pillars for the glass company: Prosperity, People, Place and Planet.

The Crisnova plant was built by Vidrala in Caudete in 1989 and is currently one of the most important glass plants in Spain with an annual production of almost 900 million glass containers.

This will not be the first time that the Vidrala Group has implemented this type of technology to supply its facilities with green energy; it already did so in 2018 in Portugal after installing a solar plant at its logistics facilities in Marinha Grande.

Vidrala is one of the first packagers to make use of FEVE’s new Glass Hallmark on its bottles. The symbol has been created by the European Container Glass Federation to champion the benefits of glass and to encourage better recycling levels across the continent.

Through its Encirc plant in Derrylin Northern Ireland, Vidrala has been able to emboss its 75cl BD glass bottles with the seal. By communicating the infinitely recyclable and reusable nature of glass on the bottles themselves, the Glass Hallmark symbolises a commitment to create a sustainable future using glass. This aligns closely with Vidrala’s Glass Made Good sustainability strategy.

FEVE has set its sights on Europe achieving a 90 per cent glass recycling rate by 2030 - an increase of 14 per cent from 2019. It is hoped the Glass Hallmark will play a key role in reaching this goal, with the symbol reminding people to recycle their containers.

Fiacre O’Donnell, Director of Sustainability at Vidrala, said: “Although it is one of the oldest materials, we believe, along with FEVE, that glass is the sustainable packaging choice of the future. With 2022 being the UN’s International Year of Glass, now is the perfect time to champion its incredible benefits; from its recyclability capabilities, to its health advantages and its ability to keep produce fresher for longer. Increasing the amount of glass being recycled is a vital step towards creating a truly circular economy in packaging, and initiatives and the Glass Hallmark give us a unique opportunity to remind consumers to recycle their glass on the bottle itself.”

Vidrala Group has joined the Nazaré Green Hydrogen Valley (NGHV) consortium in Portugal, a project led by Portuguese renewable gas producer Rega Energy. The NGHV includes the country's three main glass producers, as well as other leaders in the ceramics and cement industries, all active in the central region of Marinha Grande, Leiria and Coimbra.

The NGHV consortium aims to drive change in the Portuguese industrial sector and its strategy towards decarbonization through mature and scalable technology. It also seeks to lead the transition to cleaner energy produced from renewable sources and using circular economy practices through the use of wastewater.

The Nazaré Green Hydrogen Valley (NHGV) project represents 10% of the CO2 emissions of the industrial sector in Portugal, with a strong impact on the sustainability of the sector, exports, and communities. NGHV has an initial investment of more than €100 million and is expected to increase over time, as well as employ more than 1,700 people by 2025.

In the words of Carlos Barranha, technical director at Vidrala Group: "It is of great importance that glass containers are decarbonized to achieve our future of zero emissions as well as a circular economy. While it is true that glass has many environmental and health benefits, we still have work to do in terms of the carbon intensity of our furnaces, a key challenge that we need to address and for which we are working from our different facilities. This objective has led us to join the consortium to work towards a positive impact on Portugal's glass industry."

Vidrala's commitment to the Portuguese market is key, something the company already demonstrated after installing a solar plant at its logistics facilities in the country in 2018. By joining NGHV, the company is further boosting its penetration in Portugal as a leading company committed to the transformation of the economy towards a green future.

Leading glass bottle manufacturer, Encirc Italy, part of the Vidrala Group, is now supplying sustainable heat energy to meet the needs of the district heating network around its facility in Corsico, Italy. The project, created in partnership with power company Atecc, is reducing the amount of CO2 being released into the atmosphere by more than 3,000 tonnes a year within the region, improving air quality in the area, and providing a sustainable supply of energy for the local populace.

Atecc, a company based nearby, partnered with Encirc Italy, previously known in the region as Vidrala Italia, to allow the residual heat from Encirc Italy’s operations to be used to power the local energy grid instead of fossil fuels. The Encirc Italy-led project, was supported by technology partner Renovis Energy, who offered an end-to-end service, supplying the equipment needed while providing ongoing engineering and installation support.

The scheme is the first energy supply agreement in the Vidrala group’s history, with the district heating network now able to use 100% of the heat energy created by Encirc Italy throughout winter and 30% of it in the summer. To enable the project, Encirc Italy’s parent company, Vidrala, invested in building a new electrostatic precipitator (ESP) and a heat recovery system at the glass plant, as well as a continuous mode monitoring system This ensured the optimum level of energy can be shared with the network throughout the year

Fiacre O’Donnell, Director of Sustainability at Vidrala, said: “It’s vital that industrial organisations take note and ensure there are no missed opportunities when it comes to their own operations’ carbon footprints. This system in Corsico, made possible through our partnership with Atecc and Renovis, shows how local manufacturers can have a positive and long-lasting impact on the communities they serve.

“We believe this will be the first of several energy supply agreements for the Vidrala Group as we continue on our decarbonisation journey. Collaborative, forward-thinking projects like this one are key to creating a sustainable future.”

Vidrala Group, a leading company in the design and production of glass packaging for food and beverages, is finalist at the 9th edition of the enerTIC Awards with its project "Digital Bottle”. With this strategic initiative, Vidrala seeks to save energy through the implementation of a process control system in the plant, which is based on the deployment of new control systems in the glass furnaces for the manufacturing process of its containers using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques.

This system facilitates the optimisation of the furnaces to operate with minimum energy and maintain the quality of the glass and increasing at the same time the efficiency of the packaging and melting process by reducing defects in the shaping processes. This transformation project will lead to energy savings of more than 88 GWh/year, a productivity improvement of 2.5% and energy savings. In addition, software tools play a key role by allowing Big Data analysis to identify operational trends. In this way, operators can maximise process efficiency and identify trends in order to correct processes before defects or equipment failures occur.

According to Liher Irizar, General Manager of Vidrala, "we are very proud to be finalists in such important awards, although we have to face the final phase, I believe that being among the top three in the INDUSTRY 4.0 category is already a great achievement, taking into account the other very interesting projects presented. Digital Bottle is a reflection of where the Group is heading in terms of strategy".

These Awards for Innovation and Technology for Efficiency in the Digital Age seek to recognise the most innovative projects and the most committed managers in energy efficiency and sustainability. The winners of this edition will be announced at the Awards Ceremony.

At Vidrala we renew our 100% renewable energy supply agreement with ACCIONA Energía in Portugal and introduce Greenchain technology

At Vidrala Group we have renewed our agreement with ACCIONA Energía, our renewable energy provider since 2018. The renewal proofs once again our commitment with reducing the impact of the activity at our plants and constantly improving our energy efficiency. The agreement implies the supply of 343 GWh of additional green energy during the coming two years.

In addition to our strong determination to use green energy, the adoption of ACCIONA Energía Greenchain technology entails a significant improvement in efficiency at our Portuguese plants as it displays real time information about clean energy generation. Besides it certifies Vidrala’s consumption of energy supplied by ACCIONA Energía with a guarantee of origin 100% renewable, endorsed by the Issuing Entity of Guarantees of Origin and the Portuguese National Electric Network.

The technological platform Greenchain will allow Vidrala to track real time consumption of renewable energy and check at the same time the amount of CO2 emissions avoided as well as the associated equivalences such as, for example, the number of planted trees or cars retired from the roads. This additional and innovative function showcases our contribution to minimizing the impact of its activity on the climate change and how it embraces a more sustainable future.

In fact, during the last two years and a half we have reduced our CO2 emissions by 125.000 tons, which is equivalent to removing 30.000 vehicles from circulation or planting 90.000 trees. Regarding the coming two years, expect our two plants in Marinha Grande to reduce emissions by around 100.000 tons of CO2.

Jorge Escudero, Energy Category Manager at Vidrala considers the renewal o of the agreement with ACCIONA Energía a “natural step after the good results achieved since Vidrala first started its relationship with ACCIONA Energía. Since 2018 we have registered a continuous reduction of our carbon print. However the path to carbon neutrality and full sustainability is long and challenging. Greenchain solution allows as to verify the origin of the electric energy we consume. We consider this as another step aimed at combining Vidrala’s full productivity with social responsibility and concern for the community where it is integrated”.

Aprígio Guimarães, Country Sales Manager at ACCIONA Energía Portugal, says: “We are very satisfied to continue contributing to Vidrala’s sustainability goals aimed at reducing its carbon print, now with an additional guarantee of origin that assures the use of 100% renewable energy, certified through the Greenchain platform”. In this regard, the Country Sales Manager is committed to “enhance the relationship of trust that already exists between ACCIONA Energía and Vidrala with the certainty that this partnership is delivering positive results. We also want to continue with our mission of commercializing electric energy from totally renewable sources in Portugal”.

Vidrala Group, leading producer of glass containers for the F&B industry, has extended its Commercial Paper Programme on the Spanish alternative fixed-income market (“MARF”) for another year for a maximum amount of €200M, which represents an increase of €50M compared to its former limit.

This way the company continues strengthening its financial soundness and diversifying its sources of financing, optimizing costs and developing a fixed-income investor base.

The company decided to extend its Commercial Paper Programme as a result of the strong market reception since its debut at this market in 2019. During the last period since september 2020, Vidrala has successfully issued over €350M in short-term promissory notes, with a pent-up demand of over €1,500M.

In fact, on the 9th of July Vidrala issued €20M in commercial paper with maturities of three, six, nine and twelve months and rates ranging 0% and -0.06%. The emission was oversubscribed 4.5 times.

In addition, within the framework of the long-term financing strategy, the company has recently extended the maturity of its syndicated revolving credit facility to September of 2025.

This credit line, amounting 180 million euros, was turned into sustainable in 2019, liaising its costs to the environmental targets of the group.

Vidrala Group, leading producer of glass containers for the F&B industry, has signed with Spanish bank BBVA its first interest rate swap (IRS) agreement linked to sustainable criteria, a pioneering financial product in the derivative market. IRS are a product class that help companies manage and cover risks related to interest rates and exchange rates, which are part of business’ day to day operations. However, Vidrala and BBVA have gone one step further by formalizing a sustainable version of this product.

Vidrala has linked the contractual conditions of this IRS to a particular goal meant to reduce CO2 emissions. In this regard, the fees it will have to pay as part of the IRS agreement vary depending on the achievement of the established key performance indicator (KPI). In case Vidrala fails to achieve the expected carbon footprint reduction, it will face a penalty that will be assigned to reforestation project “Tree Planting in Tanzania”, led by ForestNation.

Vidrala, leading producer of glass containers for the F&B industry, has been awarded in the category “Growth in the UK” during the ceremony of the Trade and Investment Awards, organized by the Department of International Trade of the British Embassy in Spain.

This award recognizes the important investment effort made by Vidrala in the UK since the acquisition of Encirc in 2015. Since then, the company has deployed over 150M£ for projects in the UK. One of the most ambitious initiatives in British territory is the programme launched to rebuild the furnaces and equip the production lines with new technology. In the context of this programme, the company developed the biggest glass container furnace in the world in Elton.
Vidrala and Encirc have undertaken a revolutionary trial that has proven that new bottles are able to be made from 100% recycled glass, using only the energy from burning ultra-low-carbon biofuels. As a result, they have successfully created the most sustainable glass bottles in the world.

The UK is a very relevant market for Vidrala. In this sense, the acquisition of Encirc, with aprox. 1,500 employees, represents one of the biggest investments undertaken by Vidrala in the last years. This corporate deal significantly expanded Vidrala’s business. Apart from producing glass containers, now it also offers logistic solutions and bottling activities and complementary services of special interest for customers located in remote regions such as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or California, contributing to improve the costs of logistics and reducing environmental impact.

Carlos Delclaux, chairman of Vidrala said: “I’m thrilled to receive this award and would like to give a very special thanks to the great work carried out by Encirc in the UK, contributing to add value to Vidrala as a group. Due to its great potential, UK is one of the most relevant markets for us. Even in times of Brexit and pandemic, the UK has shown great strength and growth potential. We are very honoured for this award that is to some extent a recognition of our efforts and faith in the UK”.

Vidrala’s Crisnova glass plant in the town of Caudete, Albacete was officially presented with the accolade at an event attended by representatives of the City Council of Caudete and the Junta de Castilla La Mancha.

After speeches by Moisés López, Mayor of Caudete, Llanos Valero Hernández, Provincial Delegate of Sustainable Development in Albacete and Carlos Delclaux, Chairman of Vidrala, the event concluded with the symbolic act of planting a tree representing the project featured.

The event publicly witnessed the Collaboration Agreement stipulating that Vidrala will carry out the planting of 1,338 trees (334 elms and 1,004 almeces, native species of the area) on plots of 8.36 hectares owned by the City Council of Caudete and classified as a green area.

Vidrala, through its Crisnova plant, now assumes the care and maintenance of the space for the next 30 years. Total absorption is expected at about 1,045 tons of CO2 after the end of the period.

In a second phase of this project, another area of land about 5 hectares will be reforested, resulting in Vidrala becoming the glassmaker with more hectares (13.36 hectares)in Spain allocated for CO2 absorption projects.

In addition, the calculation of the carbon footprint made based on the international standard ISO 14.064, has been registered with the Ministry of Ecological Transition and consequently the Crisnova plant has been certified with the national seal as a company committed to reducing its carbon footprint .

November 22, 2019.- Vidrala has reached an agreement with Acciona to supply electricity from renewable sources, in the two glass container manufacturing plants that it has in Portugal during the year 2020, for an estimated volume of more than 173 gigawatt-hours (GWh).
The energy supplied to Vidrala will be used to cover the electricity consumption of the Gallo Vidro and SB Vidros plants that Vidrala operates in the Portuguese town of Marinha Grande. All the electricity supplied will be 100% renewable, avoiding the emission of around 60,000 tonnes of CO2 to the atmosphere during the contract period.

"We are grateful for the trust that Vidrala, a company we have supplied since July 2018, has placed in ACCIONA by increasing the level of energy contracted. We are also very pleased to contribute to our client’s sustainability objectives, reducing its carbon footprint” says Santiago Gómez Ramos, Director of Energy Management in ACCIONA.

Vidrala has completed its bespoke project designed by Endesa, for the installation of a photovoltaic solar park at its Vidrala Logistics facilities in Marinha Grande (Portugal).

The construction and operation project of the new photovoltaic park includes 792 high-performance modules with a total power of 222 kilowatts (kWp) on the roof of the warehouse, to generate 376 megawatts per year. This energy production is perfectly aligned with the total consumption of Vidrala Logistics.

In environmental terms, it will allow a considerable reduction of CO2 emissions (4,500 tons of CO2 equivalent in 25 years), which corresponds to the annual consumption of some 100 families. This Small Production Unit (UPP) corresponds to an investment of Vidrala of around 180 thousand euros.

This partnership between Vidrala and Endesa, through the new photovoltaic solar park, results from the strategic vision of both companies for a more efficient and sustainable future and once again confirms Vidrala's firm intention to optimize the environmental impact of its processes, products and services.

Llodio, June 21, 2019

Vidrala completed today the novation of a significant part of its debt towards a sustainable financing structure. For the amount of EUR 260 million, the financing consists of a term loan of EUR 80 million and a revolving credit facility of EUR 180 million, with maturities between the year 2023 and 2024 that include optional extensions up to the year 2025. Financing cost will be equivalent to adding an initial differential of 0.75% per annum to the Euribor reference rate, which may be reduced up to 0.585% if debt continues to fall and certain environmental improvement targets are met.

The financing, in a syndicated structure, has been possible thanks to the participation of nine credit entities of recognized prestige and consolidated commercial relationship with Vidrala. In this regard, Vidrala would like to thank the support and work of Banco Santander, BBVA, Caixabank, Rabobank, HSBC, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Bankinter and Banca March.

With this operation, Vidrala continues to make progress in integrating sustainability into its corporate strategy, committing specific objectives of environmental improvement and linking part of the financial cost to its achievement. In this case, Vidrala will measure annually the emissions derived from the industrial process that may have a climate impact, mainly CO2, defining specific objectives to maintain its progressive reduction.

This fact confirms the firm purpose of Vidrala to optimize the environmental impact of its processes and products. Glass is a unique material, with incomparable environmental characteristics, 100% recyclable, an unlimited number of times, in an infinite cycle. It is also the healthiest packaging material, as it guarantees the best conditions for the preservation of the products inside. Vidrala is firmly involved in encouraging the use of raw materials of recycled origin, supporting progress in favor of sustainable packaging and against the use of plastic that is developing in the consciences of consumers and to which they are committing an increasing number of consumer brands throughout the world.

Vidrala releases ESG rating

An increasing number of studies are suggesting that management of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues ends up reflecting in a more solid long-term business performance. This idea is powerful: that sustainability may also be linked to greater long-term enterprise value.

At Vidrala, we see that more and more stakeholders, ranging from customers and administrations to banks or investors, routinely incorporate ESG factors into their decision-making processes. We think that it is a growing process and we assume the challenge of staying at the forefront in these matters.

What is an ESG rating?

Sustainalytics’ ESG Risk Rating evaluates unmanaged ESG risk by assessing a company’s exposure to and management of the ESG issues that are considered most material for that company, enabling benchmarking across and within sectors and sub-industries. Ultimately, the ESG rating provides the insights required for stakeholders to make more informed decisions that lead to a more just and sustainable global economy.

How should I interpret the ESG rating?

The company’s overall score in the ESG rating ranges from 0 and 100, with 0 indicating that risks have been fully managed (no unmanaged ESG risks) and 100 indicating the highest level of unmanaged risk. It is calculated as the difference between a company’s overall exposure score and its overall managed risk score.

According to the third resolution adopted at the Annual General Meeting held on May 29, 2018, the Board of Directors has agreed to carry out a share buy-back programme under the terms indicated below.

Purpose. The purpose of the programme is to reduce the share capital of VIDRALA by the redemption of own shares, with the aim of contributing to the shareholders’ remuneration policy through the increase in earnings per share.

Maximum size. The Company plans to buy shares in the market until it accumulates 1% of the share capital. Taking into account that VIDRALA will contribute to this repurchase program the balance of 69,073 shares it holds at present, up to a maximum of 192,000 shares will be acquired, for a maximum cash amount of EUR 16 million.

Duration. The program will have a maximum duration of twelve (12) months, from the publication of this significant event. However, the Company reserves the right to terminate buy-back programme if, thereunder and prior to its validity end date, it has acquired shares for an acquisition price that reaches the maximum cash amount or the maximum number of shares authorised by the Board of Directors, or there is any other circumstance that would advise to do so.

Additionally, an interim cash dividend from 2018 results of a gross amount of EUR 76.64 cents on all outstanding company shares has been also approved. The payment will be executed on February 14, 2019.

Two papers were presented before the prizes were handed over, and these were organised by Marcelo Leslabay, lecturer in Design at the University of Deusto. The first of these, titled “La reconstrucción Abad” was presented by Jon Abad, architect and designer, and President of EIDE. For his part, the architect, designer and journalist Quim Larrea presented a paper titled “Buen/Mal diseño”.

Primer Premio: ICE Pure Icelandic Water

4D Wine is the project from Mondragon University that has been awarded first prize. The event forms part of the activities organised within Bilbao Bizkaia DWeek to promote the creative industries.

Renowned designers Nacho Lavernia and Juli Capella delivered individual talks and took part in a round table discussion moderated by Marcelo Leslabay, a lecturer at the University of Deusto.

Bilbao, 28 November 2016. The Icaza Auditorium at the University of Deusto hosted the awards ceremony for the first edition of the Master Glass Design Contest, organised by Vidrala and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Deusto, in collaboration with the Association of Designers of Euskadi. The 4D Wine project, an innovative and disruptive concept for a wine bottle, was the winner of this competition aimed at design students.

Innovation, originality, functionality, feasibility and sustainability were the aspects valued by the jury when awarding the prize to this initiative conceived by industrial design students from Mondragon University: Pablo Odriozola, Nestor Guisasola, Aritz Hernani and Inge Urionabarrenetxea. The jury was composed of Asier Etxebarria from Vidrala, representatives from the University of Deusto and the Association of Industrial Designers of Euskadi, together with National Design Award winners Santiago Miranda and Nacho Lavernia.

“Izpi” and “Secret” were the other projects — a soft drink bottle and a wine bottle respectively — that the jury considered noteworthy for their design and innovative approach.

The awards ceremony took place as part of Bilbao Bizkaia DWeek, an event promoting the creative industries organised by the Bilbao Bizkaia Design Council (BiDC) between 17 and 30 November. The prestigious designers Nacho Lavernia and Juli Capella also participated in the event. In his talk “How We Do What We Do”, Nacho Lavernia explained the designers’ creative process, from conceptual thinking to the raw materials they work with, as well as the physical and communicative functions of their projects.

For his part, Juli Capella outlined “The 10 Commandments of the Young Designer”. This was followed by a round table discussion moderated by Marcelo Leslabay — lecturer at the University of Deusto and industrial designer — in which they debated the different ideological and methodological approaches designers adopt when tackling a new project.

Following this first part, Ángel Roldán, Commercial and Marketing Director at Vidrala, and Asier Perallos, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Deusto, presented the awards to the winners of this first edition of the design competition. The group received a trip to Milan together with their tutor and a visit to Vidrala’s factory in Corsico (Italy), as well as a certificate acknowledging their participation in the competition.

The aim of this contest is to seek out new ideas among students of Industrial Design, Engineering or Graphic Arts. Participants in this first edition submitted a total of 21 proposals, either individually or in groups.

The next call: national level

During the awards ceremony, the guidelines for the next edition of the competition were presented, which will now be held at a national level. The deadline for submitting new projects will be 16 June 2017.

The competition will feature two categories:

Bottle design for wine, cava, champagne, sparkling beverages, cider, water or spirits
Small-format bottles for beer, soft drinks, juice, water or dairy products

Submitted projects must also include a graphic proposal for the label, and original ideas for closures, caps and alternative functional sealing systems will be taken into account when selecting the winner.

The jury, composed of experts appointed by Vidrala and the University of Deusto, will be responsible for the technical evaluation of the projects and the selection of the winner. The decision will be announced during the second half of June.

There will be a single prize consisting of a trip to the Milan Furniture Fair 2018 for the winner or winners of the competition.

ISIS, the new range of glass oil bottles

The design of the glass oil bottles is based on the shape of the bottle Bordeaux, widely used in the wine world and following the trends of the market and consumers. The range ISIS is made in white glass, allowing the oil content to be shown magnificently. Currently there are 4 different formats of glass oil bottles with screw mouth: 25, 37.5, 50 and 75 cl.

The choice of this lighter range of glass oil bottles reduces CO2 emissions in manufacturing and transportation, as well as raw materials, water and energy without compromising on quality and current designs.

Vidrala Group continues with its policy of respect for the environment and technological development, offering its customers products that help its competitiveness and differentiation.

Publifestival 6th Edition and Social Enterprise Awards

OUTSTANDING SUCCESS AT THE SIXTH EDITION OF PUBLIFESTIVAL, THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF SOCIAL ADVERTISING, WHERE THE 2012 SOCIAL ENTERPRISE AWARDS WERE ALSO PRESENTED.

On 15 June, more than 350 people gathered at the CaixaForum auditorium in Barcelona to attend the prestigious gala of the International Festival of Social Advertising organised by the Mundo Ciudad Foundation.

A total of 50 awards were presented, selected from 553 entries, positioning Publifestival as a benchmark both nationally and internationally.

Branded this year as the “Festival of Emotions”, the event also included the presentation of the “Social Enterprise” awards to the most socially responsible, sustainable and supportive companies of the year.

This competition aims to recognise companies that have stood out over the past year for their corporate social responsibility policies, with Vidrala being one of the award winners.

The jury for the Social Enterprise Awards included prominent figures from the business world and major media organisations, such as Julieta López, currently responsible for communication and advertising in the foundation sector as well as corporate social responsibility at Grupo Intereconomía, and Dácil Acevedo, President of the CSR Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Panama.

In the words of the director of the competition and president of the Foundation, María Cansino, “the level of participation exceeded expectations and the jury’s task was complex, given the high standard of all submissions, with the winners being those that stood out most in their social and/or environmental work”.

The aim of the EPD was the BH Ecologique wine bottle. A lightweight glass model with a capacity of 750ml, dark green color, screw mouth BVS and a weight of 390 gr.

The production system considered to carry out this study was evaluated taking into account the production of the raw materials and the supplies used in the process as well as the production, marketing and transportation of the final product.

The EPD was achieved in October 2011 after an external audit.

An EPD is a standardized (ISO 14025/TR) and LCA based tool to communicate the environmental performance of a product or system, and is applicable worldwide for all interested companies and organizations.

A declaration is based on a Life Cycle Assessment. It includes information about the environmental impacts associated with a product or service, such as raw material acquisition, energy use and efficiency, content of materials and chemical substances, emissions to air, soil and water and waste generation. It also includes product and company information.

Certified EPDs are open for all products and services. There is no evaluation of the environmental information since no predetermined environmental performance levels are set. Instead it builds on well-structured and quantitative data certified by an independent third party.

EPD is voluntarily developed information and the purpose is to provide quality-assured and comparable information regarding environmental performance of products.

Gorka Schmitt, new president of ANFEVI and Vidrio España

Seven professionals from the Vidrala Group are taking part on an ongoing basis in this new Master’s programme, benefiting from an excellent opportunity to enhance the management skills and technical knowledge provided by the course. As a new initiative — compared to previous editions — the possibility has been opened up for interested managers to participate in specific modules, in order to foster and strengthen both their knowledge and their role in people management. The new Vidrala Master’s programme represents the Group’s latest training initiative and brings together, under a single programme, the Master’s training, Executive Development Seminars and Management Committee training, with a clearly defined structure aligned towards achieving shared objectives. This training programme concludes in March 2011 with the presentation of the “Master’s final projects”, enabling those professionals who have completed the full programme to obtain official Master’s certification.
